The WordPress Theme Checker will tell you if your theme is compliant with WordPress.org standards for theme approval. Use the WordPress Theme Checker if you are a developer.

To check your theme the first thing you need to do is install the plugin.

To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New.

On the next page type "Theme Check" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left.

Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed.

A new "Theme Check" menu item has been added to your admin under the Appearance menu. Click on it.

On the next page, there is a dropdown at the top that allows you to pick any theme currently installed on your site. The dropdown will default to the active theme.

Pick a theme and then click Check It!

After a few moments you will be presented with general info about the theme followed by whether it passed the tests or not.

Below the test result information you will see Warnings, Info and Recommended changes to make to the theme.

Info and Recommended aren't as important as Warnings, but they do give you some good information about your theme.

As a theme developer it is a good idea to address any issues that arise.

Your theme goes through a similar vetting process when submitting it to WordPress.org for inclusion in the Repository. So, for developers this plugin can give you some great insights.
