Below are the 9 habits that I'm working on each day to improve. They come up over and over when you dig into WHY some smart people achieve a high-level of success, while others hit a plateau and have a hard time pushing forward.

1) Write down goals & priorities

(A) Put it on paper
(B) Look it at daily
(C) Turn big-picture thoughts into 1-2 hour tasks

2) Use a calendar for ALL to-do items - Written to-do lists can get you far, but a schedule allows you to look back and manage how you spent your time.

3) Say "no" to stay proactive - This was a hard one for me. I like being nice. I like saying, "yes." One reality of work at home is friends & family think you are available 24/7 to help them out. If you worked at an office job, they would know you are off-limits from 9-5 each day. And they don't quite understand you get it from all angles, so it's imperative to take control of your schedule instead of being reactive to others.

4) Calculate the value of your time - Your hourly rate can determine the cost for a website, but it also provides clarity with what work to offload.

5) Create repeatable processes - I am a creature of habit when it comes to productivity. I like trying new things and then figuring out the best method. Then, I write down the exact step-by-step procedure and follow it brainlessly after that.

6) Actively prioritize health - Today, I have a much better-integrated lifestyle between computer work, nature, eating well, and the occasional indulgence or lazy day.

7) Learn new things - The education and job system dull your internal desire to dig into subjects you love. People lose interest in hobbies, and they never find a career that's fulfilling.

In today's fast-paced world, it's never been more important to stay on top of trends that you can adopt before everyone else to get the edge. Also, don't overlook learning timeless knowledge from books. Those provide fundamentals that last forever.

8) Look for new income - When you work for yourself, diversifying the money that comes your way is the ultimate method to predict what you'll make each month. That's also how you compound your income to reach levels you never could as an employee.

9) Build trust with customers - As a freelancer, having a great relationship with a business owner often means they will happily pay you for years. There is nothing more valuable, and it's still underrated because people tend to only consider short-term opportunities.

The same goes for a blogger because you are writing to a broad audience of people who should care about what you say. That only happens by telling them the truth, sharing your knowledge, and not looking for the quick buck.

Getting all of these correct is a years-long process. It takes full commitment and sacrifice.

But I believe anyone can do it. I hope you choose to create better habits this year.
