Welcome to WordPress 4.9, the second major update to WordPress in 2017. This beautiful montage of new features will showcase all the best that WordPress 4.9 has to offer.

This video will walk you through all of these new WordPress 4.9 features, with brief explanations on how to use them to your advantage.

Hey WordPress fans, and welcome to WordPress 4.9.

With the 2nd major release of 2017, this one focuses on site customization, editing code & a brand new image gallery widget.

Let's jump in and take a look at all the new features.

We'll start with the Customizer, which saw quite a few improvements in 4.9.

You can now save site design changes as a draft, which means you don't need to post them right away.

Even better, you can schedule them to go live at a later date. Select "Schedule"... pick a date & time... and click "Schedule".

You can even send your colleagues a live link to preview the changes, so they can share feedback before you make your changes public.

A much improved workflow. Built right into WordPress 4.9.

The Customizer also made it more intuitive to create menus,

and now displays wordpress.org's growing list of free themes, without ever having to leave the Customizer.

Choosing the perfect WordPress theme just got a whole lot easier.

Next up is the brand new Photo Gallery widget. You can now add beautiful galleries to your WordPress sidebar, without a plugin.

Enjoy all the same features you're used to when adding galleries to a post... choose your photos, number of columns, adjust the order, add captions...

The same photo gallery experience you're used to... now available in sidebar.

On a slightly lighter note, the text widget got a shiny new "add media" button, and it now supports shortcodes out of the box. Embed content to your heart's desire.

Last but certainly not least... code editing.

Developers and Cowboy Coders rejoice! WordPress 4.9 now uses CodeMirror to provide a smoother experience, and prevent potentially fatal errors that could bring down your site.

The improved code editor can be found in Additional CSS... ... Custom HTML widgets... ... and the theme & plugin editors.

It even prevents you from saving broken code, with an explanation of where the error occurred. This one could really save you from a lot of headaches.
