Disable WordPress Core, Theme & Plugin Updates Using A Plugin | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial you will discover how to use the Easy Updates Manager plugin and how to use it to disable WordPress updates, disable WordPress automatic updates for specific plugins, and disable WordPress automatic updates.

The biggest reason you would want to stop WordPress background updates is because in rare cases they can break your website. Normally, you would want to backup your website before every update so that you can restore it just in case something goes wrong.

The first thing you'll need to do is install the plugin. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New.

On the next page type "Easy Updates Manager" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left.

Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed.

The plugin adds a new menu item under the Dashboard link in the lefthand WordPress admin menu. There is where you can set for which components WordPress no updates allowed.

You can choose to allow automatic updates to some plugins and not others. You can choose to allow automatic updates to your theme. You can choose to allow no core updates or only allow automatic updates for minor core file releases. It's all up to you. You can also WordPress prevent auto updates altogether.
