My Advice To Young Millennial Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurship is a calling, not a career choice, just like being an athlete, artist or a singer. Training and experience matter, but on some level so does talent. You can outwork people, or be outworked, do not coast on your talent. But also don't be surprised if you are outdone by someone who has natural abilities that you don't happen to have. Focus on your strengths and wins.
With that mind having the calling is not enough, you have to be patient, work hard and be consistent if you want to be an entrepreneur and you're never too young to start learning the important lessons.
While people can be successful through ruthless business practices, that should not be your ideal. The best and sometimes quickest way to be successful is to think about how you can create value for other people. Entrepreneurs who down this route, people are more interested in changing the world than stacking money, seem to attract wild success and wealth to them.
Millennial Entrepreneurs sometimes face some real challenges in being taken seriously. Many older generations feel they haven't paid the dues to even begin to think about Entrepreneurship. This is a mistaken mentality by itself.
Millennials can be thought leaders and entrepreneurs, a good idea doesn't have a minimum age requirement.
Being 25 or younger doesn't put you out of your depth if you are speaking to an issue you have encountered your entire life and have viable answers or solutions for. A primary example would be that Millennials can speak to the financial hardships of their generation and champion solutions or approaches that their peers can adopt and new lessons that their elders should be passing a long to their children on how to avoid certain pitfalls.
Part of being an Entrepreneur is knowing what you're going to champion and building a business on solving either a specific set of problems or addressing the needs of a certain group. Facebook was founded on the idea of connecting young people in college, the same young people that were the peers of Mark Zuckerberg and his friends. That vision eventually expanded to connecting as many human beings as possible.
"Making something cool", became one of the greatest success stories of the last century, spurred multiple multimillion dollar industries into existence, and created a legacy for Mark Zuckerberg and his team, assuring their places in history.
