If you are building a WordPress site to host a portfolio with large image files or a video hosting site with a single media file size of GB, you may face that in most cases you will not be able to upload media larger than 25MB file problem. The 500 Internal Server Error always seems to come in the most inconvenient way, as users suddenly figure out how to get their WordPress site online.

By default, the maximum upload size for WordPress ranges from 2MB to 150MB, depending on your web hosting provider's default settings. To check the current maximum upload size on your WordPress site, navigate to WP Admin, Media. Add New.

If the current maximum upload size suits your needs, you can leave it as-is. But if this is not the case, don't worry. There are many ways to increase the maximum upload size in WordPress. I will highlight the following possibilities in this tutorial. This is a standard file used to configure any application running on PHP. This file contains the required parameters for file timeout, upload size, and resource limits. Access your WordPress root directory via SSH or FTP and browse the php.ini file. In some cases, this file is not visible; another option is to create a new file.

Open any text editor and create a new file. Copy the following code and save it as php.ini.
