Downloading and Uploading WordPress.org (Self Hosted WordPress) Files | WP Learning Lab

This is probably one of the easiest parts of the installation process, you're just downloading a zip file, then uploading that zip file to your hosting account and then extracting that zip file.

So, first things first, you have to go to WordPress.org and download the WordPress zip file. You will see a blue download button on the WordPress.org homepage. Click it. On the next page click the blue download button again to download WordPress file.

What you are downloading is a ZIP archive containing all of the WordPress core files which will allow you to install the software.

Once you have downloaded it, don't extract it yet. It's faster to upload WordPress file to your server as a zip file.

Open either your hosting account cPanel and go to your domain's folder using the File Manager or open your domain's folder via FTP if you have it set up.

Upload the ZIP file to that folder. Once the upload is complete, extract the ZIP file. Some FTP clients don't support extraction so you'll have to log in via your cPanel File Manager at this point to extract the ZIP.

Usually the extraction puts the files into a folder called WordPress. You'll want to move them out of that folder and into the root folder for your domain. If you don't your site will only be visible if people go to www.yourdomain.com/wordpress and what you probably want is for your site to show up when people go to www.yourdomain.com.

Once the files are moved to the root you are ready for the next step which is creating the MySQL database, which is the subject of the next video.
