In this tutorial you're going to discover a sometimes over-looked setting that will ruin your WordPress SEO efforts if you don't have it set properly.

This setting is called Search Engine Visibility. It is used primarily to block search engines from crawling and indexing your website when it is in development.

Unfortunately, when sites come out of development this setting isn't turned off.

Let's make sure that it's set properly on your WordPress site. Log into your Admin Dashboard. Then hover over Settings in the left hand side menu and click on Reading.

On the next page that loads the very last setting is Search Engine Visibility. If you want search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo to crawl and index your website then this box needs to be unchecked.

If you don't want search engines to crawl and index your site, which is sometimes the case, make sure the check box is checked. Keep in mind that it is up to search engines to honor your request to not have your site indexed.
