Google Analytics Goals - How To Create Them Step-by-Step | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to create Google Analytics goals so that you can see how many visitors to your website are doing what you want them to do.

In this tutorial we're going to create a basic "Sign Up" goal to track how many people are signing up for our newsletter so that we can see our conversion rate. Goals are an important part of measure the success of your sales funnel or conversion funnel.

So, let's get to how to set up goals in Google Analytics.

First things first, you'll need to install your Google Analytics code on your website. I have a tutorial right here (https://youtu.be/N7kQ1T8cmz0) to help with you that if you need it.

If you already have the analytics code installed on your site, sign into your analytics account at analytics.google.com and then open the profile of the website you want to create a goal for.

Inside of the profile click on the Admin link at the top and then on the next page click on Goals in the right hand column.

Following that, click on the red New Goal button to get started. Choose the kind of goal you want to create from Google's list, or if you're advanced (why are you watching this video if you are?) you can create a Custom goal. For this tutorial we're creating a Sign Up goal.

Click on Next Step.

Give your goal a name and choose a type.

Follow the instructions Google gives on the next step as they are different for each type of goal. Once you've completed the steps click Create Goal.

After a few days you will start seeing goal results when you go into your website's Google Analytics profile and click on Conversions at the bottom left menu. Then click on Goals, then overview.

That's all there is creating goals in Google Analytics.

The power of goals comes in when you link them to Google Analytics Experiments so that you can A/B split test changes to your pages to increase your conversions. But that will be the topic of another video.
