Syd first discovered a passion for cooking when he joined bandmates in the kitchen on their days off. Knowing his chances of making it in the music world were slim, Syd decided to take his newfound love of food and give it his all. He enrolled in culinary school and jumped into the restaurant world, working 80 hours a week at two different restaurants in LA and interning for free at a Michelin-star restaurant. Soon after, Syd moved to Seattle to soak up all he could in the kitchens of food trucks and fine dining joints. When he was ready to break out on his own, he opened up his own food truck, Bread and Circuses—but the brightest flame burns quickest, and he had to leave his food truck days behind. From the ashes came his greatest venture to date: Ballyhoo Hot Sauce. The guys enjoy smoked cocktails while Syd shares all about getting plates thrown at him in restaurant kitchens, the delight of crafting his own physical products and the biggest mistake he’s made along the way.
