Open Link New Tab Or Window on Your WordPress Navigation Menu | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial you will learn how to make your navigation menu links open in a new window.

This is easy enough for a link in the blog post. You can either use the link creator in the WordPress editor and check the box that says "Open link in new window". Or you can simply add the HTML parameter (target="_blank") inside the link HTML. Depending on the browser this may open links in new tab.

In the WordPress navigation options it works differently and it's sometimes hidden.

So, let's get to how to open links in new window WordPress. First, log into your WordPress admin then click on Appearance and then Menus.

Next, click on the Screen Options tab at the top right of the page. Inside the screen options makes sure that the Link Target option is checked.

Then click the down arrow beside the link in the WordPress menu that you want to open in a new tab and you will see a new option: Open link in new window/tab. Check the beside that option and then click on Save.

Go to your site and test the link. It should open in a new tab or window now.

This strategy is often used for WordPress open external links in new window. This is also works in a WordPress drop down menu.
