Summary of this Tutorial:

To turn it off for self pingbacks, you can install and activate the no self pings plugin. this plugin works out of the box and there is nothing for you to configure.

As an alternative, you can install and activate the disabler plugin and it has a checkbox for disabling self pings, make sure you save your settings.

If you want to turn off self pings without using a plugin, you can go to Settings, Discussion page and uncheck the box.
