Want to preload links in WordPress and increase loading speed? Link preloading is a browser technique that loads links in the background before website visitors click on them, making your website appear faster. In this video, we'll show you how to easily preload WordPress links for faster loading. Why Preload Links in WordPress?

With link preloading, your web browser loads a link in the background before the user clicks it. This way, the moment they reach the page, the page is already loaded.

Improving your WordPress speed and performance is one of the most important things you can do for your website as it improves the user experience. A faster website can help increase your blog traffic by improving your WordPress SEO. When your internal pages are preloaded, your visitors are more likely to stay on your site longer and view more pages.

While there are more things you can do to make your WordPress site faster, preloading links is very simple and can provide a big speed advantage.

The only thing is that you have to make sure you set the preload correctly and don't make the usual mistakes. For example, if your settings are too aggressive, and all internal links are pre-installed, it could have the opposite effect, or even crash your server.

Let us show you step by step how to properly preload links in WordPress. Preload WordPress links and make WordPress faster, The easiest way to preload links is to use the Flying Pages plugin. It just adds smart preloading to make sure that preloading doesn't crash or even slow down your website. When it detects such a problem, the plugin will stop all preloading.

First, you need to install and activate the plugin. Check out our WordPress plugin installation guide for more details.

Once activated, navigate to the Settings - Flight page in your WordPress admin to configure plugin settings. Then you need to set the "Delay start preload" time in the drop-down menu. This is the delay to start preloading links when the user's mouse is not moving in the browser window. You can change this setting, but we'll keep the recommended default of 0 seconds.

Next, you can set the "Maximum. Change requests per second. The lower you set this number, the less impact it will have on your server. We've left the default setting of "3 requests", which should work well for large Most WordPress hosting environments. After that, you can check the "Preload on mouse pointer only" checkbox. This will preload the link only when the user hovers over it, and reload the page before clicking.

This technique makes the perceived load time almost instantaneous, as there is a 400ms delay when the user moves the mouse over the link and clicks it. You can also set a "mouseover delay". This is the elapsed time the user hovers over the link before preloading begins. Below is a list of keywords that the plugin will ignore when preloading. These are standard login pages and image files. You can leave the list as is, or add more keywords as needed.

If you're running an online store, you may want to add pages like /cart and other dynamic pages to this list so they don't preload. If you're using an affiliate marketing plugin like ThirstyAffiliates or PrettyLinks, it's also important to add an affiliate prefix like /refer/ or /go/ to this ignore keywords list. Otherwise, affiliate link tracking may break. The last option is to disable preloading for administrators. Overall, this will help reduce your website server load.
