Shawn Pfunder kicks back with Christina Kortum, owner of CK’s Ravenous Studios, as they chat about how she got into the special effects biz. Enter to be on the show at https://effups.com.

Christina got her start in special effects makeup by applying her own as an actor in a haunted house. As her skills improved, she joined the haunted house’s makeup team. That experience gave her special effects career an invaluable jumpstart, and she soon started doing work for independent films on nights and weekends (all while maintaining her day job as a network engineer.) Eventually, Christina landed her dream job doing special effects makeup at NBCUniversal. She started CK’s Ravenous Studios in 2009 and has since worked on projects all over the world, including NBC’s Grimm, Portlandia, Leverage and The Librarians. Her gnarly work ranges from horror and fantasy makeup to bloody injuries, creatures, character masks and aging prosthetics. Christina shares how she made her way in an out-of-the-ordinary industry, what a typical day in the life is like and how she learned to blow up heads.
