Akismet Plugin For WordPress - Reduce Comment Spam With This Anti-Spam Plugin | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial you're going to learn how to install and configure the Akismet plugin to help reduce comment spam on your WordPress site.

The Akismet plugin is made by Automattic, the team behind WordPress itself. It comes pre-installed on all new WordPress installations, so chances are it's already installed on your website. But it's probably not configured.

In the off chance it's not installed already, here's how to install it. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New.

On the next page type "Akismet" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left.

Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed.

To get to the Akismet settings simply hover over Settings in the left hand menu and then choose Akismet from the flyout menu. It's usually near the bottom.

On the following page click on Get Your API Key and then on the next page click on Get An Akismet API Key.

You have to create a WordPress.com account or if you have one you can log in with your WordPress.com credentials.

You can choose to pay for the Akismet API key if you are a commercial enterprise. You can also get the key for free.

Once logged in you will be presented with an API key that you can copy and paste in to the Manually Enter An API Key field inside your WordPress site.

Then click on Use API Key and you're all set up. Akismet will start blocking spam immediately.
