Create A Custom Email Address For Your Website | WP Learning Lab

I've seen too many business cards that have a Gmail, Hotmail, AOL or Yahoo email address on them. Although I know the business owner is doing the best they can, see that business email address makes me think their business is quite as good as it could be yet. If you have a hosting account for your website there no reason you shouldn't have a custom email address. Let's make one!

The first step is log into your website host's cPanel account and then find the icon or link called Email Accounts. Click on it.

On the next page there is a short form to fill out. First choose the prefix for the email address. The can be your name or info or support or whatever as long as there are no spaces and no special characters other than a period (I don't think a period is considered special though).

Next, choose the domain name that email address will be associated with from the drop down. Then choose a password. I recommend you use the Password Generator to make it a hard-to-guess password, but it's up to you.

Then enter the quota for the email address. The quota just means how many megabytes of space is allocated to that email account. I usually choose unlimited, but you have to be careful. Shared hosting accounts frown on accounts that use too much space. If you are receiving a lot of large attachments via email you can use up server space very quickly.

After you've chosen the quote all you need to do is click Create Account. Then if you scroll down the page you will see a list of all email addresses on your hosting account.

If you click on the More link to the right you will be able to download some small executable files to your computer that will automatically setup your Outlook or Mac Mail to connect to this new email account.

It's that easy. If you want to keep using your Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo or other email account you can setup an email forwarder to forward copies of all emails to your main account. I made a video showing you how here: https://youtu.be/n7sm8b5gUVY
