Mark has has created the Candwich, a sandwich in a can that can be sold from soft drink vending machines and can stay fresh for years. Watch Steve Harvey’s Funderdome Sundays 9|8c on ABC.

Shawn: Hey, everybody. I'm Shawn Pfunder. I'm here with GoDaddy. I'm hanging out here with Mark, who has the coolest idea ever, he's running a small business. It's the canwich. Hey, Mark, why don't you tell us about your product?

Mark: Well, it's actually a pocket sandwich in a soda pop-sized can.

Shawn: Yeah.

Mark: And it was designed to be able to come out of a soft drink vending machine.

Shawn: Yeah?

Mark: And we've got a lot of flavors. And it will last for several years and stay flesh.

Shawn: So okay, somebody has got to have made the zombie apocalypse joke with this type of stuff, right?

Mark: Oh, yeah. Like, all the time

Shawn: All the time [Laughs]. Okay. So what made you -- like, where did you come up with the idea? Like, where did it come from?

Mark: I was eating some cookies one day and drinking a can of soda with my wife and kids. You know, I thought, "Hey, if I put the cookies in the can, I could sell it from a soft drink machine."

Shawn: Yeah?

Mark: That was the idea.

Shawn: So originally it was cookie in a can.

Mark: Originally it was cookies, yeah. Then we thought well, -- we found a sandwich that had been developed by the military that the technology would help it stay fresh for extended periods. So that's -- that developed into the canwich.

Shawn: I love, love, love this idea. So have you worked -- you just have that kind of entrepreneur mindset, this is what you always do, or, like, do you have a day job that you do and then you do this type of stuff?

Mark: You know, I've been working on this for now well over a decade full time.

Shawn: Yeah?

Mark: And I had owned businesses before and wanted to really bring this out. So I went full time with it.

Shawn: Yeah.

Mark: So here we are.

Shawn: Okay. So let's talk a little bit about marketing, right, from GoDaddy. So it's all about marketing, getting websites, getting online, using social media. But honestly, even beyond that, like, how are you primarily marketing the product right now? Like, how are you getting the word out about it?

Mark: You know, we've gotten the word out a few times accidentally.

Shawn: Oh really?

Mark: Yeah. And we weren't ready for all the attention that it got. Because it was like a novel thing. It's unusual. And so now we've rebooted, we're ready to market. We want to go online. I think GoDaddy offers that opportunity to really reach out and reach our target audience.

Shawn: Yeah, yeah.

Mark: You know, this is where we're starting with the big web page because that's the only way you're going to reach people now in today's world is the web page.

Shawn: No, absolutely. Well, okay, so I have one final request. Can we open one of these so I can try one and actually eat it?

Mark: Yeah

Shawn: Okay. So are these both -- I think I want the peanut butter one; is that doable?

Mark: Yeah, that's our simplest one.
Shawn: Okay.

Mark: Just bread and a packet of peanut butter.

Shawn: Okay, I'm going to eat sandwich in a can. Okay, I'm really excited, put down the mic and just go. Okay.

Mark: Little tight, little tight.

[ Laughter ]

Shawn: There we go. Check this out. All right. So how long does this stay in the can?

Mark: How long will it last?

Shawn: Yeah.

Mark: You know, once it's sealed inside the can, it will go several years and stay fresh. I mean, it won't really change because of the -- it's sealed in there air tight. It will stay in there.

Shawn: All right.

Mark: I will tell you, I've seen people online eating one that we sold in the past that was four years old and they liked it.

Shawn: What?

Mark: Yeah.

Shawn: Is this one four years old?

Mark: No, this is fresh.

Shawn: How fresh is this one?

Mark: We made them up for the event.

Shawn: So, like, a few days?

Mark: Yeah.

Shawn: A few days. All right, it's a few days old. It's bread a few days old. I'm going to [inaudible] good?

Mark: I don't know

Shawn: Yeah, it's amazing because it's peanut butter and honey. All you peanut butter and jelly people out there, forget it. So anyways, Mark, pleasure talking to you.
