Easily Add Contact Form 7 Placeholder Text To Any Input Field | WP Learning Lab

Contact Form 7 placeholder text makes your contact form much more user-friendly. You can use placeholder text to give the user more information or you can use it to replace field labels.

By eliminating field labels you can substantially reduce the space your form takes up. So if you need to conserve space or if you're thinking "mobile first", using contact form 7 placeholder text may be a good move for you.

Luckily, adding placeholder text is super easy, but first you have to create a contact form. If you've yet, here's a tutorial on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy70WGCjMY4

Now that you have a form, let's add place holder text.

First, go to the form editor.

Then click into any of your form in put fields and add

placeholder "YOUR PLACEHOLDER TEXT HERE"

A complete input field would look like this:

[text* your-name placeholder "Your name (required)"]

That will create a text input field that is required and the place holder text will be "Your name (required)".

That's the manual way of adding place holder text. There is a more user-friendly way, but it takes a little longer. Here's how to do it.

Click into your form where you want the input field to be and click on the 'text' button above the editor to open the new field dialogue box.

In the dialogue box enter the details as desired and then put the text you want to be the placeholder text in the Default value field.

Below the Default value field make sure you check the box beside "Use this text as the placeholder of the field".

That will create the text as a placeholder.

Click Insert Tag when you're done.

The code to create this field will look just like the code from above.
