Google Safe Browsing List Check - Protect Your SEO | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial you will learn how to check if your website or your client's websites are on the Google Safe Browsing List. Although it doesn't sound like a bad list, if your website is on that list it's a bad thing.

If your website is on the Google Safe Browsing List then your domain likely has malware on it. Google will warn traffic that your website can hurt their computer and give them the choice to not visit your website. The warning will say things like suspected attack site, malware distribution or phishing scam. In short, no one will want to visit your site.

Your domain will also be provided to other services to warn them of problems on your website. A good example is firewall software for corporate networks.

If the malware issue is not fixed quickly it will also affect your search engine rankings in Google.

To check your site just copy and paste the URL below into your browser's address bar and replace 'example.com' with your domain name. You can also scan subdomains.

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://example.com/

You will be presented with a page that has all the results of the check. If some of the results come back positive (as in there is malware on the website) then Google will have links to resources to help you clean it up.

Once the website is clean your work isn't done yet though. You will have to manually submit your website to Google for a manual review. You do this via Google Webmaster Tools. Check out this video tutorial on it: https://youtu.be/nlrBRR61cm0
