Davide Galanti: I'm Davide Galanti from Italy. We have a couple of companies, little companies, not far from Bologne in Italy. We work in infrastructure, so mainly is you know Citrix, VMWare, Microsoft … all that is around the availability and security, and we are specialize in making the infrastructure agile. Efficient. This is our main business. And if you asked me before if I am a freelancer. I'm not a freelancer, but I think that every person that works in the business today has to think like a freelancer, because if not, if you don't think like a freelancer today, you're out of the business in six months. You become old in six months. Because you have to change what you do all the time. Business product changes quickly, the market changes quickly — I do not do the same stuff. I do not sell the same stuff I sold in 2011. Or 2010, absolutely not. Because stuff is changing so much. Also, in the other company that we have that makes applications, the way we do application from enterprise application, internal web apps, they are completely different in the way we did a few years ago. So this is why, and I tell to my colleagues, you have to think like you are freelancers even if you work in a company. Because today there was an event, and I've heard a guy is saying when you are a developer think like you are the project manager, project leader, and they were right. Because sometimes you have to rearrange what you're doing like you are alone. Think that you are alone, so you will be more efficient you will be more creative, and I think that your boss — if he's not stupid — he will appreciate very much.
GoDaddy: What you're saying is freelancers, because they have to take on more responsibility than the one thing that they think they're good at, right, like this is my core job, freelancers have to sell, they have to market, they have to project manage.
DG: Yes, all the time. One-man band.
GD: They have to understand and then have to adapt to the market quickly in order to be successful.
DG: Yes. Absolutely.
GD: Have you written more about this? I love this concept of how everybody should behave like a freelancer, especially if you're a startup. Have you written about that other places?
DG: Sometimes I speak about it. I share these thoughts with my colleagues first of all. And yes, I was talking about these at a meetup.
GD: Yeah.
DG: Because it doesn't matter this is why I'm here. I'm not a WordPress developer. I'm here because I am a customer of WordPress, that the way I use and I love and I need something like like that, it doesn't matter if I'm not a developer because I push my suppliers my colleagues and the people and my partners to be more open they are, open minded, the better it is for everybody — for them and for me of course. You're gonna be stuck doing the same thing that you did two or three years ago …
GD: How do you push them to be like that, to encourage them to be more open-minded?
DG: Sometimes they are a bit jealous. I don't know if in English it's the right term, “oh, I've seen this, it's excellent!”
