Vitorria Toso: I'm Vitorria. I'm 26. I'm single. I am joking! I'm from Milan. And I'm a web designer and a front-end developer.
GoDaddy: Front-end developer?
VT: I freelance for two years. I used to work with agencies, and then I say "okay, I prefer to work for myself."
GD: Yeah.
VT: And now I'm free as a bird.
GD: How long did you work with agencies?
VT: For three years.
GD: Three years? Doing front-end development as well?
VT: Front-end development and design.
GD: And design work as well? Tell me more about what made you want to actually go freelance.
VT: Because I have a necessity to manage my time. So I need to be more productive, and I think that, at the office, that nine o'clock you badge and 6 p.m. badge, and it's not … I don't feel I am realizing my work. Because some days I feel like, they are not very crazy, I can fix this. And I have to stay in the office and get frustrated and stuff like this, so I say this is not the way I want to work. I tried to work with my times and also for myself. And I think it's good to work for your clients and talk to them, and there are really a lot of reasons.
GD: Yeah.
VT: I think it's difficult for the market to work with clients directly and find clients. I think it's part of the game, so it's funny also.
GD: Yeah, is that the thing that is your biggest challenge, finding work? Or are there other challenges?
VT: Well, finding clients, of course. But also managing clients. So talk with clients and convince them that the job that's your job, and everything that relates to the relationship with clients. So I think I find it difficult talking to people about my job. I think I'm a good web designer and a good developer, so I think that makes this part more easy.
GD: What does a typical day look like for you when you're working?
VT: I wake up at … It depends. Well I prefer to work during the nights.
GD: OK.
VT: I have to wake up because other people I am working with is waking up at nine so I have to. But I usually start work at around 10, 11 in the morning. And I work until the night. I go out for a beer or to do something else, to chat with people, then I come back home. And then continue to work. So I prefer to work during the night because I have no email, no phone calls, and I concentrate on my job and I think it's amazing.
GD: Yeah.
VT: My goal is to work only during the night.
GD: Just during the night?
VT: This is my dream. I think it would be very good, but I don't know.
GD: If you had to give advice to somebody that wants to do freelance work but hasn't done it yet, like they want to, what would you tell them to do?
VT: It's not easy to be a freelancer.
GD: It's not easy?
VT: You have to not be … you have to be a very calm person because it could be very ...
GD: Like, uh, anxiety? Yeah.
VT: Yeah. But you can manage your free time, your time, your free time, and this is — you can give value to your time.
GD: Yeah. Is there any …
VT: It's the best thing in my jobs.
GD: Is there any, are there any, are there any tools or like programs or things that you use that you couldn't live without? That you just love?
VT: I have no tools which are …

VT: Indispensable. No, I think that it's fun to change my tools.

VT: So I try, as a developer, I try so many programs for develop, and I think, well, some of them have some good things, and some of them have other good things, so I change them depending on my project. So I think it's sort of fun to change my programs ...
